Under the direction of the Manager Admissions, the Admissions Assistant will assist with processing post-secondary applications. The incumbent provides support to applicants, students, faculty and staff. and applies in-depth program and admissions expertise to provide problem analysis and solution determination in all applicant matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Processing applications by analyzing and applying Ministry and/or Sheridan admission policies and procedures related to the processing of post-secondary and post-diploma/degree applications;
  • Assisting with assessing transcripts to determine admission status and updating client information;
  • Compiling and verifying information for automated admissions processes;
  • Consulting with prospects, applicants and internal;
  • Generating applicant reports to oversee applicant communications;
  • Participating in and supporting events, such as Convocation, Start of Term, Open House and Discover Sheridan;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must possess a diploma/degree in the field of education, social sciences, information technology, business administration or a related field along with several years experience in a position processing complex and specialized information/guidance. An understanding of Sheridan’s programs, admission requirements, organizational structure as well as provincial and local educational structure, trends and legislation is required.

The candidate must have demonstrated expertise in computerized office skills and related software packages, especially a thorough working knowledge of SIS, preferably PeopleSoft. The successful candidate must possess excellent customer service, organizational and interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and judgment. Excellent communication skills are essential in order to ensure the diverse student population is well serviced. Proven problem-determination and resolution skills along with the ability to work well independently in a team-based environment are a must.
