School District #83 is presently seeking a full time (1.0FTE)

Aboriginal Education Resource Helping Teacher

This is a temporary appointment effective immediately to June 30, 2017.

• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor Education;
• valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in BC College of Teachers;
• a minimum of 3 years teaching experience in either Elementary, Middle or Secondary schools in British Columbia public school system;
• a strong understanding of Aboriginal pedagogy, Aboriginal culture, and specializes in a wide range of instructional areas inclusive of: humanities, literacy and inquiry based learning;
• aboriginal language fluency or language development considered an asset.

Teachers applying for this position must possess the following attributes:
• Ability to develop and act as a Helping Teacher for a wide range of instructional programs for classroom teachers and librarians;
• ability and knowledge to support District initiatives with Aboriginal worldview and perspectives;
• knowledge of B.C.’s updated curriculum and the ability to assist teachers to weave Aboriginal content throughout K-12;
• technology skills to support Aboriginal Education website such as Weebly, website design, social media skills and Microsoft tools;
• ability to provide professional development workshops, inquiry sessions which model Aboriginal ways of knowing;
• working experience with Aboriginal students, performing and analyzing educational research and methodology for instructing Aboriginal students;
• ability to successfully model proven Aboriginal teachings methodologies to other District teachers and support staff;
• ability to demonstrate strong leadership and team work competencies in all areas of Aboriginal Education;
• ability to review and recommend appropriate and authentic learning resources specific to Aboriginal content;
• specialized methodologies, adaptations, and modifications of programs with Aboriginal content specific to Aboriginal learning and Aboriginal ways of knowing;
• ability to increase cultural knowledge and its application to direct curriculum links;
• the ability to communicate and work effectively with students, staff, parents and administration;
• the ability to work collaboratively as a member of the district team;
• resource learning kits development with ability to include community input/connections.
