Under the direction of the Children’s Librarian, performs library duties of moderate complexity in circulation, public service, basic information work, clerical duties, and programming.
Performs a complete range of duties related to the circulation of library materials, including check-out and check-in, overdues and late charges, registration of borrowers, holds and interlibrary loans.
Provide information to patrons about library procedures and policies, borrowing privileges, hours, programs, etc.
Instruct and advises users in the effective use of library resources, including electronic media and applications.
May participate in adult, young adult and children’s programming including visits to organizations such as schools, daycares, and seniors’ residences.
Provide basic reference and readers’ advisory service to library users.
Assists patrons in the use of branch materials and equipment, including specialized technological equipment and programs such as Mac computers, iPads, Chromebooks, Bizhubs, video gaming consoles, video, phone and audio editing software, modelling software, and online programs.
Troubleshoots branch technology including hardware and software in consultation with the Information Technology Services department.
Responsible for clerical duties such as supplies, mail, filing, room bookings, recycling, and bulletin board maintenance, etc.
Assist with collection maintenance process, for example basic mending, barcodes, spine labels, snags, completing template letters, weeding, and processing items to be withdrawn.
Other duties as required.
Graduate of an approved Library Technician program or completion of a recognized university degree program.
Relevant experience in presenting programs for the public and providing good public service.
Good knowledge of circulation procedures and policies.
Good knowledge of and ability to explain and implement library procedures, policies and regulations, according to Saskatoon Public Library values and practice.
Ability to provide basic reference and readers’ advisory services.
Ability to effectively present programs for children, teens, adults, and seniors, and work creatively with children.
Ability to deal with straightforward procedural problems.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement and to solve routine problems.
Demonstrated ability in the use of technology including an ILS, databases, Microsoft office, internet tools, electronic resources, Mac, Windows, Linux and mobile OS, photo, video, and music editing software, video gaming consoles and social media.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, volunteers and the public.
Demonstrated reliability, including punctuality and attendance.
Effective written and oral communication skills in the English language.
Must be adaptable to change.
Must be well organized in planning daily work and accurately perform detail-oriented work.
Ability to lift and carry up to 13.6 kg. (30 pounds)
A current, acceptable Criminal Records check is required.
Practical experience in using mobile devices would be an asset.
Knowledge of languages other than English is an asset.
Hours of Work:
36.25 hours over a two week period.
Pay Band 5: $38,208.72 – $45,913.20 per annum, pro-rated.
