Job Duties

1. To design and/or deliver extension and revenue generating programs and services to meet the needs of businesses/industry and the community.
2. Determine the education and training needs relevant to economic and public sector employers, with a focus on the development of skills and training of individuals to help business/corporate clients meet their goals.
3. Create plans and proposals for educational activities to meet the business related learning needs of both individuals and groups within a variety of fields and industries.
4. Work with the leadership of your school to research new initiatives and offerings within the Extension unit.
5. Ensure the design and development of quality programs and
services responsive to training and development needs of individuals and
business/corporate/professional clients.
6. Determine gross activity budgets for an assigned work area.
7. Manage financial resources to meet programmatic needs and report revenues
and expenditures against agreed upon targets.
8. Attend leadership meetings and Advisory meetings for your assigned work area.
9. Develop and implement appropriate marketing strategies to promote the programs and extension services as they relate to the training and development needs of
individuals and business/corporate clients.
10. Monitor ongoing programs and services in order to ascertain their
effectiveness, including individual and client satisfaction.
11. Manage the daily operations of department activities.
12. Act as the lead for Extension activity for your assigned school, including the collaboration with other Extension staff working in your school, holding regular meetings to keep everyone informed about Extension activity, and monthly reports to your school leadership.
13. Contribute to the development of and implementation of the Extension Unit’s business plan.
14. Contribute to the development and management of operating
capital budgets.
15. Assist in the hiring and assignment of work for Professional Services staff for your assigned area.
16. Contribute to the goals and development of the division and Saskatchewan Polytechnic in accordance with the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Extension policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
Specific Accountabilities

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)
1. A four-year degree in business or education.
2. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in planning, developing, implementing, and leading continuing education programming; or recent participation in at least two of the following areas:
  • Adult education
  • Marketing
  • Business development
  • Training needs assessments
  • Training proposal development

3. Leadership and supervisory experience, providing strategic level impact.
4. Analytical, motivational, and strategic planning skills required.
5. Demonstrated experience managing budgets and allocating resources within established guidelines.
6. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
7. Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and partnerships with management, faculty, administrative staff, industry partners and business clients, and the public.
8. Highly motivated, team oriented, flexible, self-directed, and committed to the enhancement and expansion of the organizations’ Extension unit.
9. Effective problem solving and organizational skills.
10. Working knowledge with the following applications: MS Word, Excel, Windows, email.
