Job Duties
1. Under the direction of a Library Manager – supervise library support staff (library technicians and clerks).
2. Recruit, supervise, train, and coordinate the activities of support staff.
3. Provide reference service – assist Saskatchewan Polytechnic students, staff, and faculty with their information requirements.
4. Provide circulation desk service to Saskatchewan Polytechnic students, faculty and staff, alumni and external clients.
5. Assist patrons with using a variety of software and troubleshoot computer, printer and photocopier problems. Refer major problems to the Helpdesk.
6. Select and deselect items for assigned program areas for the purposes of collection development.
7. Conduct library orientation tours. Refer instructional requests to librarians.
8. Catalog items when vendor cannot supply MARC records and troubleshoot problems in the libraries’ database.
9. Participate in Saskatchewan Polytechnic Library teams.
10. Other duties as assigned, which may include Serials, Interlibrary Loans, Acquisitions and Distance Services.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)
1. Library Technician Diploma or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
2. Five years of recent/relevant library experience.
3. Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership skills.
4. Effective problem solving skills.
5. Effective interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
6. Training and/or experience at the advanced level in the use of circulation procedures.
7. Training and/or experience at the advanced level in the use of common software packages, i.e. MS Office Suite.
8. Knowledge of common office procedures and operations.
9. Experience with the Library of Congress Classification System and bibliographic record structure and Anglo-American cataloguing rules.
10. Training and/or experience at the intermediate level in the use of reference skills i.e. online databases, e-books, streaming video and library catalogues.
11. Demonstrates valuing diversity.
