Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2000 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 4800 clients through our eight Career Centres across the province. This summer student position will have the opportunity to gain excellent experience in SIIT’s IT department. Reporting to the Director of IT, the incumbent provides support within the IT department­ while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and careful handling of highly confidential and sensitive information.

You will have the opportunity to learn and support us by:

  • Participating in, and learning the fundamentals of Information Technology
  • Handling and processing information with confidentiality and compliance
  • Performing data entry in our IT systems
  • Providing excellent client service and support
  • Assisting with building training resources such as screencasts or electronic/paper-based training documents
  • Installing and configuring workstations including desktops and laptops/docking stations/monitors
  • Assisting with special projects and department initiatives

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Must have completed one full year of post-secondary education in a related program, and be returning to school in the fall of 2017 . Must be prompt, reliable, and exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills, coupled with a high level of confidentiality. Prior experience working with Microsoft Office suite of programs is required; good understanding of Windows 7 and Windows 10 operating systems including toolbar manipulation, basic customization of GUI appearance and functionality is an asset. Ability to perform physical activities and lifting up to 50 pounds. A valid driver’s license as travel may be required. There is potential for travel and overnight layovers at remote SIIT locations.

Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions is considered an asset.
