The Canada 55+ Games are coming to Saint John in August and we are looking for an energetic, passionate, experienced Games Manager to help us make this an unforgettable experience for participants and visitors to our city!

What are the Canada 55+ Games?

SJ 2018 Canada 55+ Games Inc. will be hosting the Canada 55+ Games in Saint John, August 20-24, 2018. This biannual event is comprised of multi-event games with a unique blend of active and passive activities. The mission of the Canada Senior Games Association is to work continuously to influence personal behaviour and social supports that encourage healthy, active living for older adults throughout Canada.

These games will feature 24 events, played in 25 venues, and are expected to bring 1,500 participants and their families to Saint John. We, as the host city, are responsible for coordinating and providing transportation, accommodation options, and fair and competitive competition for all participants and non-participants for the duration of the Games. These games will feature nightly entertainment and will be bookended with a large scale opening and closing ceremonies.

Your Responsibilities

You will play a key part in the development and delivery of projects, reporting, and strategies to ensure the events of the 2018 Canada 55+ Games are successfully delivered in collaboration with Games partners and key stakeholders. To accomplish this, you have industry‐related knowledge, sport contacts, technical expertise, and previous sport or event management experience. You will also manage key relationships with the local host committee members, venue contacts, Directors of the Canada Senior Games Association as well as Provincial Sport Organizations, Corporate Business partners and our local politicians. The Games Manager must possess a valid driver’s license.

Specifically You Will:

  • Take a leadership position in planning and executing events.
  • Lead by example with high levels of energy, enthusiasm, and guidance.
  • Work with stakeholders at all levels of various partner organizations.
  • Manage the budget and ensure adherence to all policies.
  • Work with complex organizational issues and strategies and keep it simple for those involved.
  • Work with volunteer teams as well as other stakeholders from many areas involved with the games.
  • Demonstrate a goal-oriented, deliver excellence, hands-on approach to achieving results with your teams.

The Experience You Bring Is:

  • Proven ability to develop and manage complex projects.
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
  • A broad knowledge of sport.
  • Able to lead teams – including volunteers – with a level of clarity that allows them to focus on accuracy, detail, and delivering excellent results.
  • Proven decision making skills; very good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiator; people, time, resources.
  • Ability to stay focused under pressure.
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize competing demands and still deliver within hard deadlines.
  • Very self-motivated, quick learner, able to manage your time, and work with little supervision.
  • Excellent facilitation skills to facilitate organizational information sharing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week, however, we want to host a fun, best-ever run games, so flexibility will be required including some evening and weekend work.
