Title: Labour Market Settlement Practitioner

Nature: FT (35 hrs/wk)

Duties: Deliver outcome-oriented labour market settlement program to IRCC eligible newcomers. SUCCESS Settlement Practitioner provides settlement services for seniors, women, men & youth under these components a) Needs Assessments & Referrals b) Information & Orientation c) Employment Related Services d) Community Connections & e) Support Services.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs formal review of newcomer needs across a broad spectrum of settlement areas (language, employment, housing, community connections, etc.)
  • Develops Settlement Plan & follow-up support for newcomers based on identified needs & government / professional / business /community services available
  • Refers clients to appropriate employment services as needed e.g. skills training
  • Provides newcomers with client-centered settlement, employment & integration information & orientation services about the labour-market & job search strategies
  • Delivers one-on-one consultation in-person & by phone
  • Provides labour-market information & orientation through workshops & longer term programs
  • Liaises with government / professional / business /employers /community services as necessary to ensure the provision of accurate & detailed information to newcomers
  • Plans & implements large & small events
  • Occasionally, performs interpretation for workshop speakers
  • Occasionally, translates resources for newcomers
  • Outreach to newcomers through participating in hiring & community events
  • Supplies up-to-date information to Regional Manager or Settlement Coordinator in respective region regarding changes to labour market information, community services, government departments & procedures
  • Works on improving program service outcomes & day-to-day services to newcomers by participating in professional development as assigned
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Regional Manager or Settlement Coordinator in Respective Region

Qualifications:
Education, Training & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social or Human Sciences
  • Career Development Practitioner Certificate is an asset
  • Working with immigrants or experience with refugee clients
  • Knowledge of labour-market and settlement information/resources and willing to learn
  • Knowledgeable of the geographic area served
  • Experienced in conducting workshops & events
  • Experienced in one-on-one settlement service delivery
  • Excellent time & resource management skills
  • Demonstrated skills in interpersonal & intercultural communication techniques

Job Skills and Abilities

  • Fluent in spoken and strong written in English & second language in Arabic is an asset
  • Strong communication (written / verbal) & group facilitation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently & as a team
  • Strong computer skills (including internet proficiency)
  • Demonstrated active listening skills
  • Ability to work with individuals & communities facing cultural adjustment challenges
  • Ability to create & maintain client records & reports
  • Ability to design, promote, deliver & facilitate orientation & education workshops

Other Requirements

  • Able to travel among regions in Metro Vancouver
  • Able to work at different services locations, when necessary
  • Able to work evenings & weekends
  • Criminal record check required
  • Demonstrated expertise in IRCC Employment component
