Title: Family and Youth Counsellor

Nature: Part Time (24 hrs/wk)

Reports to the Family Program Manager, Family & Community Services. The main responsibility is to provide counselling to individuals & families on a whole array of issues such as immigration adjustment, marital, inter-generational, social & emotional problems, problem gambling, etc. The counsellor also delivers Family Life Education & parenting workshops to the community. Close liaison with schools, government institutions & other voluntary agencies is expected in providing integrative support to individuals & families.

List of Responsibilities:
1. Performs intake duties for incoming calls/drop-ins according to intake roster

2. Conducts counselling interviews with individuals & families

3. Provides assessment, intervention and evaluation to individual & family cases assigned

4. Receives case referrals from community agencies/schools & other institutions & to liaise with these sources in providing best possible services to the clients

5. Maintains & updates client records in accordance with the Division’s set standard

6. Attends case conferences & presents case scenarios regularly for team members’ mutual support & sharing

7. Delivers parenting/family life education workshops

8. Delivers assigned counselling-related tasks on Problem Gambling program

9. Ensures all services meet the accreditation standards

10. Works closely with staff members of other S.U.C.C.E.S.S. divisions/offices in providing joint support to individuals & families

11. Responsible for report writing & other administration work

12. Maintains statistical records for accountability, funding application/report & program development purposes

13. Attends case conferences, supervision & team meetings regularly

14. Attends division staff meeting & training opportunities as required

15. Provides support to agency wide fundraising initiatives

16. Represents S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in media functions/media interviews as & when delegated by the Program Director

17. Performs other tasks as assigned by Program Manager or Program Director

1. Education, Training & Experience:

  • Master degree in Counselling, Social Work, or Clinical Psychology
  • Holds a valid Registered Clinical Counsellor membership
  • At least two (2) years counselling work experience is preferable
  • Experience in Problem Gambling Counselling is an asset
  • Demonstrates experiences on conflict resolution, case management & counselling skills
  • Demonstrates good group facilitation skills
  • Demonstrates strong understanding on case planning and case management principles & techniques

2. Job Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in Chinese (preferably both Cantonese & Mandarin)
  • Excellent in interpersonal & communication skills
  • Good team player
  • Excellent program planning, time management & organizational skills
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite & basic internet skills
  • Multitasking & flexible

3. Additional Information

  • Desirable Criminal Record Check Vulnerable Sector Check (submitted upon hiring)
  • Occasional evening or weekend duties
  • Need to travel occasionally
  • Need to attend to crisis intervention which may extend beyond the normal office hour occasionally
