Matte Painter – Intermediate (NOC 5241 Graphic Designer)

Rocket Science VFX is a multimedia production company creating film & television digital visual effects and animation. Currently there are ten (10) Intermediate Matte Painter positions to be filled. We believe in creative challenges, technical and artistic investment, and continuous growth through education and experimentation.

JOB DUTIES

• Consult with project managers and artists across various disciplines to establish graphic elements as well as technical and creative aspects;
• Create 2D, 3D environments with an eye for photorealism;
• Design VFX Concept art (i.e. graphic elements) that guides the shoot and VFX production;
• Determine the medium best suited to produce the desired visual effect using leading edge industry software programs;
• Develop and prepare graphic elements using traditional tools, multimedia and design software, and image processing;
• Execute matte painting tasks based on direction from Senior Matte Painters and VFX Supervisors;
• Solve creative and technical problems under tight deadlines and fast turnaround; and
• Work within a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Working knowledge of Photoshop and Shotgun;
• Knowledge of Nuke, Maya and Mari are a plus;
• Working knowledge of both television and feature film VFX production pipelines; and
• 2 – 3 years of experience in a live-action VFX environment within the motion picture industry.

ATTRIBUTES

• A strong eye for detail, composition, colour and lighting;
• Artistic ability (as evidenced by portfolio/demo reel of work); and
• A team player with excellent communication skills.

EDUCATION

• Related College level diploma/certificate, or equivalent on-the-job experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

• This is a temporary, full-time position
• Hourly Wage: $31.25 CAD
• Working Hours: 40 hours/week

BENEFITS

• Vacation entitlement: Two weeks;

• Overtime pay after 44 hours.
