The Community

The Town of Richmond Hill is a community of over 200,000 people located north of Toronto. It is the 6th fastest growing municipality in Ontario, and is expected to increase by 30% in the next 10 years. Over half the population was born outside Canada, with ongoing and increasing diversity anticipated. It has the highest proportion of residents with post-graduate education in Canada, and the community tends to be young, family-oriented with a strong technology orientation; as such, residents value education and library services.

LOCATION : Central Library

STATUS : Contract – 15 months

35 hours weekly as per schedule, including evenings and weekends


Project Planning

  • Manage day-to-day progress and delivery of assigned projects reporting to Manager of Technologies as the project lead
  • Research and organize information to support successful project planning, execution and project team communication
  • Provide support in developing project plans and implementing the plans
  • Provide support in monitoring project delivery against timeline and ensure timely completion*

Technical Support

  • Provide technical support for Windows and Mac computer systems and other computer-related equipment. Troubleshoot, analyze, repair, configure and rebuild systems. Install and upgrade software and hardware including various peripheral devices
  • Provide technical support for other technical equipment including photocopiers, library self-service equipment, automated material handling equipment, telecommunication equipment and audio/visual equipment
  • Provide technical support for the integrated library system (ILS) and the user discovery service related issues and projects
  • Participate in after hours on-call rotation as required

Systems Administration Support

  • Provide support for all operating systems, business applications, security tools, emails, computers, wireless network, and local and wide area network, as needed
  • Install, configure and maintain networked hardware, software and peripheral devices including staff and public computers, printers and MFPs. Ensure connectivity of all workstations
  • Upgrade, maintain, monitor and support third party applications and escalate issues to Managers when appropriate
  • Provide assistance with administration of telephone and voicemail systems

Other Related Duties

  • Regularly travel to other branch locations for projects, troubleshooting and maintenance work



  • Possess a post-secondary degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • At least 3 years of experience in a technical or network operations role within technical support environment including:
  • at least 1 year of experience working in a Windows Server 2008/2012 environment (Active Directory, IIS, MS Exchange, MS SQL),
  • at least 1 year of experience working in IT project management/support role for projects such as telephone system upgrade, asset management software, print management software etc.
  • some experience working with Mac Platform devices * Experience in research, organization and implementation of technology projects such as a new telephone system
  • Physical stamina required to lift and transport moderately heavy objects such as computer equipment; Physical ability to stretch and bend to install wires and cables in floors and ceilings
  • Valid Class “G” driver’s license in good standing and access to reliable vehicle


  • Familiarity with Audio Visual (AV) equipment and assets
  • Familiarity with Mac Platform
  • Familiarity with an integrated library system (ILS)
  • Experience working in a public library setting is an asset
