RGO is seeking a full-time, permanent Human Resources Advisor. Reporting and working closely with the Human Resources Manager, this generalist position will have primary responsibility for the administration of RGO’s Health and Safety Program. This role is also responsible for providing consistent support and guidance to the managers and employees of RGO in Calgary and Edmonton on a range of human resources functions which include Employee Relations, Health & Safety, Workplace Wellness, Disability Management, Performance Management, Full-Cycle Recruitment, Training and Development. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior human resources professional to gain experience in a generalist role.

Responsibilities:

Health & Safety, Workplace Wellness & Disability Management

  • Maintain and further develop wellness and disability management programs and initiatives
  • Coach managers on awareness and management of on-the-job, pre-disability, disability, or return to work health issues and identify and encourage best practices
  • Provide disability management support, including return to work and facilitation of accommodation
  • Manage short term and long term claims in conjunction with RGO’s service provider
  • Monitor our pre-employment health assessment process and COR audit preparation
  • Chair the Health & Safety Committee
  • Provide safety information and statistics as required for ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, PICS Auditing, ContractorCheck and RGO sales proposals

Employee Relations

  • Provide employee relations advice within the guidelines of RGO’s corporate policies and any other applicable legislations
  • Conduct workplace investigations
  • Draft disciplinary and termination letters for managers, working with them to ensure that they accurately reflect the circumstances and assist with policy development as required

Recruitment, Training & Development

  • Participate in recruitment by collaborating with hiring managers to revise and maintain job descriptions, post vacant positions, assist managers as necessary in screening applicants, interviewing and prepare offer letters for candidates upon manager’s hiring decision
  • Deliver new employee on-boarding and orientation sessions
  • Facilitate and/or deliver training programs such as Safety related topics and Respect in the Workplace

Occasional travel (once per quarter) to RGO’s Edmonton office is required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Business or Human Resources plus a minimum of two years of related human resources experience, preferably including administration of Health and Safety programs
  • A passion for excellent health and safety in the workplace, knowledge of regulatory requirements related to disability claims, accommodation requirements and health and safety legislation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various Alberta Legislations (Employment Standards, Human Rights, etc.)
  • Strong business writing, oral communication skills and experience presenting and facilitating to groups
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects within established deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Tact, diplomacy, confidentiality and good judgement when dealing with information pertaining to candidates, employees and the company
  • Initiative and ability to think critically and act logically in evaluating situations and generating required steps to ensure success
  • Positive, go-getter, hands-on attitude with a customer service approach
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Programs
