Signalman Apprentice

Job Description:

A leading railway maintenance and construction contractor is currently looking for various positions to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair railroad signaling and communication (S&C) equipment across Canada.

Signalman Apprentice will learn the S&C trade from a skilled mentor, having agreed to work for a fix period of time until qualified for the position. Possibilities to train new apprentices in the future.

Basic Duties & Responsibilities Include:

• Assist installing, maintaining, testing and repairing of various signal and communication equipment
• Perform trenching for cable distribution and installation of equipment foundations
• Assist in the construction of S&C equipment such as wayside signals, switch machines, crossing warning systems, defect detector systems, etc.
• Use of hand tools (some power tools)
• Report to the S&C Signalman, Foreman or Superintendent
• Work individually as well as in a team environment

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Grade 12 diploma required
• Basic knowledge of electrical fundamentals an asset
• Previous railway experience is an asset
• Must provide valid driver’s license and abstract
• Must declare any criminal record
• Must pass e-Railsafe Canada workforce compliance system
• Must pass a Pre- Employment Drug Test
• Work within our safety guidelines & policies
• Willing to travel and work in remote locations
• Willing to work in extreme weather conditions (hot & cold)
• Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs
