The Visual Arts Program Coordinator reports to the Arts & Culture Manager. This position is responsible for the overall coordination of the day to day visual art program within the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC). Responsibilities including but not limited the development, coordination and often the facilitation of art lessons and workshops for children, youth, and adults. As well the coordination of the School Visits Program, community programs, and art gallery exhibitions.

The Visual Arts Coordinator will respond and anticipate to the community needs by creating innovate programs and opportunities.

Position Type : 1 Part Time Temporary Position Available

Pay Rate : 33.76/hour

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and facilitates a vast range of art programs and opportunities to explore arts, engaging a variety of age groups
  • Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the visual art programs industry
  • Maintains a pool of teaching artists with expertise in different media
  • Development and maintain a pool of volunteers that collaborate on the diverse aspects of the program
  • Designs and assists in the development of tours to the art gallery and the TOTAL Aboriginal Interpretive Trail
  • Assists and order art supplies, equipment and tools for the visual art program
  • Track inventory, supplies, and develop maintenance schedules as necessary
  • Responsible for the maintenance of some public art projects, and the art studio space
  • Ensures patrons, guest and students are provided with excellent Customer Service and all inquiries with parents and guests are handled promptly and efficiently
  • Maintain Northstar program entry, data changes, cancellations and registrations
  • Responsible for task assigning, scheduling, and supervising contractors and volunteers
  • Complete additional projects as assigned by the Arts & Culture Manager

Qualifications: Education:

  • Degree or Diploma in Fine Arts (visual arts) or art education

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in coordinating and facilitating arts programs
  • Must have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing children and youth in more than one visual arts media
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Ability to engage in continuous learning and on the job training
  • Knowledge of Contemporary art practices
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational and planning skills
  • Basic financial management
  • Experience coordinating and working with volunteers
  • Proficient in use of computers and software’s such as word, excel, outlook
  • Graphic design experience is an asset
  • Experience organizing events is an asset

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a Full Time position requiring about 40 hours of work and a flexible schedule including early morning, late night, and weekend work.
  • This position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment and may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
  • This position will also require a security clearance
