The Child Services Specialist reports to the Child Services Supervisor. This position will assist with the coordination and daily operations of all child care services and programs offered by the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. Responsibilities will include guiding day-to-day activities, managing supplies and equipment and child care leader supervision. The Child Services Specialist will be respectful of children and parents and will be responsible for making sure that the area remains clean, safe, and well maintained. This position will require an individual to exemplify exceptional customer service and will be an important role amongst the Health and Wellness Department.

Position Type: 1 Full-Time Positions Available
Rate of Pay: $26.80/hour ($1/hour less while on probation)
Anticipated Start Date: April 2017

Responsibilities:
Assist with the organization and planning of daily operations of child minding/child care services and programming to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the programs at the facilities within the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo.
Guide children in day-to-day activities and create age appropriate activities that promote learning and development.
Implement culturally appropriate programs and educational activities.
Supervise and encourage child minding/child care staff.
Provide a safe and secure environment while providing opportunities for sleep/rest time, ensuring positive discipline and communication, and establishing routine according the Regional Recreation Corporation policies and procedures.
Assist with sanitizing toys and child care area.
Provides guidance to the Child Services Leaders when planning programs and events
Leads the monthly safety meetings and weekly safety talks.
Supervise the Indoor Playground area and enforce rules for all guests.
Ensure the provision of nutritious snacks.
Provide parents with information regarding staff, scheduling, expectations, services, and planned activities.
Maintain current, accurate , and confidential client files,
Provide insight into daycare processes and emergency procedures,
Assist with training of new child minding/child care staff,
Provide exceptional customer service to all guests.
Assist the Supervisor in approving and processing pre-booking requests
Provide insights to strategic planning for future operational processes, programs, and events.
May be required to dress up for themed events and/or programs.
Upon completion of each shift, the Child Services Specialist must complete a specialist report and submit it to the Child Services Supervisor.
Complete additional projects as assigned by the Child Services Supervisor and the Health & Wellness Manager.

Qualifications:
Certifications:
Current Standard First Aid/CPR/AED certificate or equivalent (including CPR C)
Child Intervention Record Check

Education :
Completion of High School
A two year Early Learning and Child Care certificate (Child Development Supervisor) would be considered an asset; or equivalent education and experience

Essential Skills and Experience:
Minimum two years experience in a child care setting
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
Excellent understanding of a child’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development
Strong programming capability
Ability to train and guide staff
Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
Strong understanding of the health act and industry recommendations
Strong understanding of standard child care guidelines and procedures
Ability to work with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Ability to engage in continuous learning and on the job training

Desirable Skills and Experience:
Experience with working with children with disabilities
Experience in customer service would be an asset
Post Secondary Child Development courses
High 5 Training
Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS &WORKING CONDITIONS :
This position requires full time work (40 hours per week) and a flexible schedule including early morning, late night, and weekend work based on business needs
This position may include repetitive heavy lifting of supplies, equipment and children up to 40lbs and may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
This position will also require a vulnerable sector clearance from RCMP.
This position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region. Access to reliable transportation is necessary.
