POSITION SUMMARY:
As housekeeper you would provide and/or facilitate all aspects of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the home, and as laundry aide you would provide and/or facilitate all aspects of laundry services for residents within the home you in accordance with established policies and procedures, and legislative requirements.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: “HOUSEKEEPER”
- Receives assignment, assembles required materials and supplies, loads service and transports to work area.
- Using specified cleaning/ disinfecting/ sanitizing agents, and following specific procedures, work patterns and routines, performing tasks such as:
- Vacuuming, sweeping, dry/wet mopping, scrubbing, sanitizing/ disinfecting, washing floors, spot cleaning walls, windows, mirrors, and doors between washing: dusting, washing, sanitizing/disinfecting furniture, shelves, woodwork, etc., emptying wastebaskets and rearranging furniture: removing waste, daily cleaning and disinfecting of all bathroom fixtures and walls and replenishing supplies: cleaning floors, fixtures and furnishings in utility rooms, closets, etc
- Ensures privacy of resident during performance of duties.
- Prepares room for new occupant following prescribed procedures.
- Notifies supervisor when supplies are low or equipment is malfunctioning.
- Returns unused supply, cleans and puts away all equipment as directed.
- Adheres to established department policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, safety, environment and infection control.
- Performs emergency housekeeping where necessary.
- Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: “LAUNDRY AIDE”
- Adheres to established department policies, procedures, and objectives regarding quality assurance, safety, environment and infection control.
- Receives laundry and sorts according to type, condition and weight. Follows specific instructions for treatment of soiled linens. Separates loads according to classification.
- Receives assignment, assembles required materials and supplies, loads service and transports to work area.
- Performs emergency laundry and or housekeeping where necessary as directed by immediate supervisor/Admin or Charge Nurse.
- Washes and dries laundry following instructions for machine operations, designated washing and drying times, etc. Sorts personal clothing or puts aside for repairs and notifies charge RN if further repairs are needed. Folds laundry as required, sorts and delivers to appropriate drawers and closets.
- Observes operation of machines and reports malfunctioning to supervisor. Assists in maintaining laundry facilities, equipment and supplies. Cleans and disinfects machines daily and cleans washers and dryers and completes cleaning duty checklist daily. Also cleans and tidies floors and laundry area.
- Labels personal clothing for all new residents within the day of admission or next morning. Re-label clothing when labels coming off or loose immediately.
- Ensures that new articles that are brought in for labelling are completed within 24 hours.
- Label-Re-ordering/ordering for new or present residents
- Participates in in-service programs arranged by the home.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

- Stress resulting from dealing with diverse groups such as residents, staff, volunteers and the community.
- Some stress from exposure to resident care elements
- Some exposure for warm temperatures associated with working around laundering equipment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Grade 12 education
- Minimum 1 year experience in Housekeeping/laundry services
- WHMIS training (is preferred)
- A Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance with no infractions that has been conducted by a police force with the last six (6) months prior to employment
- Well developed organizational skills
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and/or independently.
