Red Deer Public Library seeks a dynamic, knowledgeable, professional I.T. Specialist 2 to provide helpdesk support for the organization. Reporting to the Deputy CEO, the I.T. Specialist 2 is primarily responsible for monitoring and responding to support requests from staff via a variety of channels (SysAid, Google chat, telephone, etc…). He/she redirects support requests that cannot be resolved to senior I.T. staff as required. The I.T. Specialist 2 also installs new software, hardware, and equipment and performs ongoing regular maintenance and cleaning of hardware and equipment as required. As well, the I.T. Specialist 2 will work on various I.T. projects individually or with other I.T. staff as assigned.


  • A minimum of 2 years Post Secondary Education or Computer Industry accepted certification. Equivalent experience in a library environment may be considered.
  • Successful experience working in a support desk environment.
  • Knowledge or experience with the following software and technologies is required: Microsoft Windows in an Active Directory Environment, Microsoft Office, G Suite, PC hardware and peripherals, Android and iOS apps and operating systems.
  • Experience with the following software and technologies is an asset:
  • SysAid Helpdesk Software
  • SirsiDynix Symphony Java Workflows
  • BiblioCommons Discovery Layer
  • Drupal CMS
  • Ability to explain complex concepts to customers in a way that allows them to understand and implement I.T. provided solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, intuitive and empathetic listening skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the proven ability to serve the public, and relate to coworkers in a courteous, helpful manner.
  • Self starter who is able to work to timelines to ensure that initiatives are completed on time.
  • Flexibility to work evening or weekend shifts as required.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 25 kilograms in weight.
  • Ability to use a telephone in a Helpdesk scenario for extended periods of time.

This is a permanent, part-time position at 18 hours / week, in a variable schedule that includes on-call availability a minimum of 1 week out of every 3 on a rotating basis, and includes evening and weekend shifts. The salary for this position will be start at $33.07 / hour.
