FUNDAMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Field Surveyor will work under the supervision of the Geospatial Engineering Manager collecting street lighting data in municipalities across Canada and the US on a Smartphone or Tablet user interface utilizing a free downloadable App to capture data and record street light measurements in the field.

ESSENCE OF THE ROLE:

• Conduct street light field audit
• Conduct final QA/QC on collected dataset prior to passing onto their designated Field Surveyor Supervisor or the Geospatial Engineering Manager
• Supervise any assigned Survey Assistants

KEY AREAS OF FOCUS:
Data collection and processing for LED Street Lighting Projects in the Province of Ontario

EDUCATION & JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Diploma in Geomatics and/or Survey Technician from a recognized technical school
• Two (2) years of experience in the Geomatics industry – a plus
• Computer literate and have familiarity with Smartphone App environments
• Diligent and detail oriented, able to deliver quality work within timelines
• Good communication skills
• Be respectful and display professionalism when interacting with clients and other RTE staff
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Must hold a valid Driver’s License

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Office location: The position will have the selected employ work almost exclusively outdoors
• Working hours: Weekdays, sunrise to sunset

TRAVEL:

• Ability to travel 90% of the time is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work in various weather conditions
• Good vision

SAFETY:

• Working in high traffic areas

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• Personal motor vehicle
• Smartphone with data plan, Google Android 4.0 or later / iPhone iOS 7 or later
• Survey measuring wheel (Imperial units) (purchase from Walmart if not supplied)
• High visibility jacket or vest
• Warm clothing with touch screen friendly gloves during winter months
• Vehicle Safety Light (LED) to mount on vehicle roof (purchase from Canadian Tire if not supplied)
• Camera to capture light fixture photographs

SALARY EXPECTATIONS:

$2.00 per street light collected (flexible if required to travel greater than 50km one-way to project site)
