Currently, we are seeking an experienced Research Analyst familiar who has expertise with social research, research methods, program evaluation and performing the various aspects of data management and analysis processes that work to inform our current research projects for our Edmonton office.

Overview:

Our Research Analysts work collaboratively within a variety of different teams on a number of different projects. By proactively participating in our ongoing research studies and working independently to gather, manage and analyze data, this fast paced position maximizes your skills and builds your career potential as a valued team member at Malatest and also within the research industry. Our Analyst’s leverage the quality of information gathered and analyzed so that our data provides impactful results that enhance the research outcomes we provide, for our various stakeholders and clients.

Proactively Contributes towards business development activities such as directing or preparing proposals, meeting with potential clients, developing business promotional materials and attending conferences or other professional networking forums, events and initiatives.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Survey design and implementation;
  • Data collection and management;
  • Quantitative and qualitative research methodology and analysis;
  • Report writing;
  • Building client relations and procuring new business;
  • Collects, monitors and performs field work assignments;
  • Other project specific tasks, as required;

Expectations will include:

  • Designing and developing data capturing mechanisms; identifying and recommending internal process improvements related to data collection, flow, storage and usage to ensure accuracy and organizational efficiency;
  • Sourcing and collecting data from multiple varieties of sources with focused quality assurance, data validation and maintained data integrity;
  • Conducting customized data collections, mining, analysis and reporting (either ad hoc or for organizational projects), as required; creating reports for internal and external stakeholders;
  • Recommending and developing data analysis and reporting methodologies and tools to ensure consistency of messages with regards to Malatest standards and research statistical findings;
  • Identifying, monitoring, and analyzing external research for data that can support the evaluation and stakeholder relations, internal strategies and/or process development opportunities;
  • Collaborating with the appropriate allocation of resources to complete the required work assigned;
  • Assisting in the development of staff through mentoring/coaching, role modeling, provision of in-house training, workshops, information sessions, and/or various other presentations and communications;
  • Contributing to the timely and cost efficient completion of every research project and initiative;
  • Performing as the project manager or senior analyst for multiple large-scale research projects which include methods such as: survey design, origin and destination, needs assessments and labour market and program evaluation studies;
  • Assists in directing teams and providing expertise towards several projects simultaneously; contributing to client liaison, project scoping (evaluation frameworks and project work plans), completion of significant portions of the research, supervision of project team members, quality assurance, compliance control, data analysis and report writing;
  • Upholds, adheres to, enforces and maintains Malatest policies, procedures, privacy and confidentiality requirements, as well as the quality standards of the company;

Qualifications:

Reports to the Research Manager(s) of R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd.

  • Graduate or undergraduate degree in the social sciences, computer sciences, database administration, computer technology, or related discipline; preference in appointment may be given to those with a graduate degree;
  • 2 to 5 years relevant work experience related to social research, social sciences, information management, business administration, and/or program evaluation;
  • Strong technical aptitude and experience with data warehousing and data mining; coupled with your passion for data, data systems and/or languages (e.g. GIS, SQL, Java, HTML, SPSS, MS Access, MS Excel, MS Word, Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing Systems (CATI) and CallWeb);
  • Strong client focus, excellent communication abilities and high level of integrity to handle confidential and/or sensitive or private information accurately and securely;
  • Firm grasp and demonstrated proficiency in research methodology and statistical analysis (primarily quantitative) with an understanding of mixed method approaches and qualitative research methods;
  • Must enjoy the challenge and opportunity of working in a complex and fast paced environment with multiple concurrent priorities; a strong attention to detail, and high degree of accurate and efficient productivity and time management are essential;
  • Competency in dealing with ambiguity, business acumen, organizational awareness, strategic agility and critical thinking are also required to: effectively organize tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines, project plan, work under pressure and adjust effectively to changing tasks and/or priorities as the variety of project work demands.
  • Proficient communications in both official languages (English and French) or another language is considered an asset, not required;
  • As a condition of employment on many of our research project contracts, staff members are required to adhere to Malatest privacy, security, confidentiality and quality standards, be legally entitled to work in Canada and be able to obtain security clearances with the Industrial Security Directorate Division of Public Works and Government Services Canada;

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work within a time sensitive, professional office work environment;
  • Excellent communications skills (written, verbal, in person, phone, e-mail);
  • Strong multi-tasking, organizational, time and project management skills;
  • Proficiency in MS Office environment (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint);
  • Working knowledge of SPSS and/or other statistical software;
  • Effective writing, grammar, punctuation, proofreading and attention to detail;
  • Must work well with limited supervision and as part of a collaborative research project team;
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, statistical analysis and data management techniques;
  • Travel may be required, as well as the ability to work extra hours in order to meet project demands as necessary;
