SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

MEDIA RELATIONS

Providence Health Care (PHC) is a leading teaching and research organization and the provincial referral centre for Cardiac, HIV/AIDS and Renal Care. We are known for our centres of excellence and recognized for a number of specialty programs and services across the continuum of care from acute to elder care. Our sixteen sites include a large, downtown tertiary hospital, a smaller community hospital, five residential care facilities, seven community dialysis units, a hospice and a Downtown Eastside addictions clinic.

Reporting to the Director, Communications & Public Affairs, you are accountable for the development and delivery of Providence Health Care’s (PHC’s) external communication and issues management strategies through print, electronic and social media.

With your excellent communication and story-telling skills, you will promote awareness of initiatives and build a positive profile for Providence Health Care. Aligned with the organization’s strategic directions you will facilitate communications initiatives with governments, and liaise with various stakeholders to secure feedback on initiatives, services, programs, and performance.

A self-starter, you have strong writing, verbal, critical and strategic communications skills, experience in developing action plans for crisis management and risk assessment. You have an excellent track record in building effective relationships with key media representatives and have an acute understanding of issues that may impact the organization. You thrive in an environment where a consultative and collaborative approach with designated clients is valued.

You ideally have a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations plus a minimum of five (5) years of corporate communications experience including significant experience in media relations, issues management and public affairs.
