The Power System Studies and Test Engineer is expected to conduct a considerable amount of field tests and a variety of power system studies independently or with other members of the Power System Studies team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and perform generator and load modeling field tests according to established procedures or regulatory requirements
  • Prepare simulation study cases for power flow and short-circuit analysis, transient and dynamic simulations as well as EMTP studies
  • Perform power flow and stability studies ranging from transmission planning, load and generation interconnection, integration of renewables, to distribution network optimization
  • Prepare study and test reports and other technical documentations
  • Participate in research and development projects
  • Respond to request for proposals (RFP) and provide customer support
  • Assist in marketing existing services and developing new business

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering Degree, specializing in power systems recognized by universities in Canada required
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience required
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C.

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Ability to learn field tests ( initially under supervision) and perform field tests independently
  • Good at working with hardware, and troubleshooting circuit problems
  • General technical knowledge in generation, transmission, control systems, and apparatus is an asset
  • Good knowledge of power systems analysis, controls and model simulations
  • Familiar with one or more programming languages: C/C++, Visual Basic, Python, LabView
  • Experience using power system simulation software is an asset
