The Education Program Intern would assist the education team in delivering.  Post-secondary background in education, palaeontology, geology, science, biology,….

The Education Program Intern would assist the education team in delivering
and developing curriculum-based school programs, and preparing public programming for the
summer season. This is the perfect position for a fun, enthusiastic person. The internship will
provide the opportunity to learn hands-on how the museum both develops and delivers our
school, public and summer programming. The intent of the programming is to deliver
information about the local paleontology of the area in a fun and entertaining manner. The
Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum is located on Highway 43 in Wembley, Alberta, twenty
minutes west of Grande Prairie, Alberta. The museum is an international institution for
experiential learning dedicated to Alberta’s palaeontological heritage, through research,
collection, preservation, exhibition, public programming, publications, and innovative outreach.
Please note there will be an unpaid break from December 22 – January 1st.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a responsible team player who is comfortable
working with children, seniors and the general public of all ages. Excellent communication skills
and feeling comfortable guiding and speaking in front of large groups are a must.

Post-secondary background in education, palaeontology, geology, science, biology,

archaeology or equivalent 

Completed post-secondary education within the past 24 months 

Experience working with children, youth and the general public 

Knowledgeable (or interested) in Alberta’s geology, palaeontology, flora and fauna and

Aboriginal and natural history 

Fluent in written and spoken English, second language is an asset 

Proficient in Microsoft Office 

A self-starter with the ability to work independently, with a partner and in a small office

environment 

Organized, attention to detail and able to pursue multiple tasks 

Experienced with developing and delivering school, public programs and tours 

Valid Standard First Aid Certificate 

Valid Police Security Check and Child Welfare Check 

Valid Driver`s License and access to a vehicle 

Able to commute to the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum in Wembley, Alberta

Candidate Eligibility:

Candidate Eligibility is stipulated by Young Canada Works Grant guidelines.
An individual may be eligible for an internship if they:

1. are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-

Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);

2. are legally entitled to work in Canada;

3. will be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;

4. are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;

5. will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the

program;

6. are an unemployed or underemployed college or university graduate, that is, not employed

full-time;

7. are a recent graduate who has graduated from college or university within the last 24

months at the start of employment;

8. are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program; and

9. have not previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus

internship program funded under the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy.
