Pembina has an exciting opportunity within the Conventional Business Unit (CBU) at our Calgary office for a Specialist, Petroleum Quality. This position will provide technical support and guidance to Quality Analysts, Field Operations, and external and internal stakeholders regarding quality specifications, enforcement, test methodologies, and issue resolution. This position will create and maintain LVP and HVP sampling and testing specifications, enforcement protocols, and other quality documentation. This position will also be an integral part of the gas chromatograph program in respect to the quality management lifecycle including ECC alarming protocols and the validation processes.


  • Develop sampling and analysis program for CBU and coordinate implementation with CBU logistics, field and commercial labs
  • Work with the CBU and MBU business units to setup sample point lists, sample point identifications hierarchy, analysis requirements, and results timing
  • Liaison with commercial labs to communicate sampling and analysis requirements, timing and communications of results, sample point definitions, and issue resolution
  • Coordinate the implementation and ongoing support of sampling and analysis program between Logistics, field office and lab services
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure ongoing success of the sampling and analysis programs (ie addition of new locations, sample point identification updates, sample point labeling supplies, sample point scheduling updates, etc)
  • Work closely with CBU logistics and Quality Analysts to ensure sampling and analysis requirements for monthly accounting process and routine quality management are being achieved
  • Provide support to logistics and field office on technical questions and issues.
  • Develop, manage and communicate identified quality trends to ensure physical properties and contaminants of all streams are controlled within contractual and downstream facility requirements
  • Define product quality database requirements and coordinate implementation with CBU logistics, lab and database vendor companies
  • Development of training programs for sampling processes and deliver the content to field operations
  • Optimization of processes for Labs and field operations
  • Develop blending and trending analysis for quarterly reports (KPI’s)
  • Lead adhoc quality investigations
  • Provide quality support and approval of new facility designs


  • Formal training, certification or experience with petroleum quality and/or logistics
  • Minimum 5 years experience within a quality analytics or petroleum logistics position
  • Working knowledge of gas chromatography and petroleum quality variables would be an asset
  • Demonstrated aptitude in verbally and written communication skills with stakeholders, co-workers, operations field staff and third party laboratories
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently given appropriate guidance, and able to prioritize multiple tasks
