Demonstrated skills and ability in examining, describing, dissecting, weighing and photography of small and complex large gross surgical specimens of all tissue types. Familiarity with equipment and tissue processing. Demonstrated computer proficiency; Meditech and Fusion experience an asset. Prepare educational material and mentor medical students and lab technologists/technicians. Develop processes for laboratory quality assurance, actively participate in and maintaining activities related to the quality management system. Responsible for creating and maintaining SOPs. Actively ensures compliance under the Ontario Laboratory Accreditation guidelines. Responsible for quality control and participates in gap analyisis and corrective action activities. The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of a recognized Pathology Assistant MSc program or an MLT with specific training as a Pathology Assistant with a minimum of 5 years experience in a Hospital setting is required.
• Meditech experience is required
• Registration with the American Association of Pathology Assistants (AAPA) required.
• Regular attendance is required
