The position below describes the responsibilities of an individual who will contribute to the PARAGON team environment primarily in the area of item development. The position reports to the Manager, Test Research and Development.
Areas of responsibility included within individual job descriptions and reporting relationships will change as PARAGON adapts to its competitive environment, expands into new products and services, and grows in size. PARAGON employees should also be ready, willing, and be flexible enough to work with the Test Research and Development unit to redefine their areas of responsibility as required by the needs and continual growth of the company.
Responsibilities
The Item Illustrator will work closely with the Test Development and Research Administrator and the Item Development and Research Coordinator and be responsible for the creation of illustrations used in test items for Paragon’s tests and assessments.
The Item Illustrator will be paid for reading all training materials provided by Paragon and attending training workshops and/or feedback sessions as required by Paragon. Payment for illustration work will be paid by acceptable piece according to established criteria.
The key obligations of the Item Illustrator include to:

  • Read all training materials provided by Paragon;
  • Attend training workshops and/or feedback sessions as required by Paragon;
  • Create and revise illustrations as requested by Paragon;
  • Follow item and illustration specification documents provided by Paragon;
  • Work from a secure and private location as approved by Paragon;
  • Produce quality illustrations for Paragon’s English language tests;
  • Meet weekly deadlines for illustration assignments as required by Paragon; and
  • Follow all Paragon policies pertaining to ethics and security.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or graduate degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or related discipline would be a significant advantage
  • Minimum of at least 1 to 2 years’ experience doing digital or computer-rendered artwork
  • Excellent drawing and IT skills
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and adapt illustration styles
  • Creativity and imagination
  • An eye for detail and design
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills

Other Requirements
All applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or have a valid Canadian work permit. Applicants who do not have one of these statuses will not be considered.
