A well-established consumer packaged goods company located on the south east end of Montreal is looking for an afternoon shift, production supervisor to join its team. While directly supervising a team of 6-25 hourly employees, the selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of productivity, efficiency, quality, and customer service at the lowest costs. Additionally, the production supervisor will be in charge of coordinating all resources (labour, material and equipment) to ensure production schedules are attained in a safe and timely manner. The key accountabilities for this role are as follows: – Ensure a safe and healthy workplace and identify and correct unsafe practices.
Work with Health and Safety to establish and implement new or revised processes, as necessary; lead the incident investigation process for injuries, near misses and property damage – Monitor operators to ensure quality checks are performed and production meets quality standards. Resolve quality issues in collaboration with Quality Assurance Department – Work closely with maintenance personnel to ensure optimal equipment reliability. Review and update standard operating procedures, as required – Communicate scheduling issues/changes to ensure they are managed within – Work with managers and peers to recommend changes to and implement packaging processes and procedures – Monitor contract work to ensure it is being performed in accordance with facility policies and procedures – Ensure goals for team are aligned with departmental goals; provide regular feedback and performance assessment and take action to address performance gaps – Identify training needs for team and work with HR and the management team to ensure appropriate training is delivered and the effectiveness is measured – Provide performance management for direct reports, including developing strategies to manage absence and discipline, working collaboratively with human resources as necessary – Regularly conduct safety audits and various crew meetings – Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained in the department – Understand and manage company policies, including the collective agreement – Perform Health and Safety audits and facilitate various crew meetings – Perform other related duties as required Requirements: The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years’ experience in manufacturing in a unionized environment, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role. Additional knowledge of various packaging techniques, quality assurance and good manufacturing practices are considered an asset.
As a team supervisor, the selected candidate must have effective communication skills (both written and verbal), the ability to create reports, deliver presentations and o demonstrate his/her skills in facilitation, employee engagement, attendance and performance management and safety enhancement. This is a fast paced environment, therefore candidate must be able to prioritize and balance between short and long term plans.
