Project based Instructional Designers support OTEC’s Learning and Development team by developing and maintaining various training solutions to support the organization’s initiatives.

Project design candidates must have the ability to:

  • conduct client needs analysis using ADDIE methodology
  • design and develop programs for a variety of audiences,
  • facilitate train-the-trainer sessions for both OTEC and client designated trainers
  • use e-learning authoring tools to create engaging content.

Instructional Designers must have strong working knowledge of adult learning principles and the ability to work under tight deadlines. This position is best suited for independent contractors or freelance instructional designers who are available to work on multiple projects.

Instructional Designers will be contracted on a per-project basis and can be expected to work on instructional design projects as and when required for various lengths of time in a calendar year.

Reports to : Director, Learning & Leadership Excellence


  • Design and develop print-based and e-learning training programs customized to each client’s needs by applying instructional design and adult learning principles to ensure an optimal and engaging experience for the learner. This will include but not limited to detailed course plans, storyboards, facilitator guides, participant guides, PowerPoints, reference guides and job aids
  • Work in collaboration with the OTEC team, clients, business partners and subject matter experts to design and develop engaging training programs, tools and materials
  • Consult with clients and assist in reviews for clients
  • Liaise with the Director, Learning & Leadership Excellence throughout the design and development process for content validation


  • Experience designing program based on emotional intelligence based people skills & leadership or tourism & hospitality or customer service,
  • Post-secondary education and certificate in Adult Education, Instructional Design or an equivalent combination of education and on the job experience
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in designing and developing learning initiatives and is currently active in instructional design for diverse groups and all levels of an organization
  • Current and relevant knowledge of instructional design process, learning styles, and instructional techniques
  • Strong proficiency in all MS Office Suite Products especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Experience creating e-learning programs using rapid authoring tools, especially Articulate /Storyline 2
  • Working knowledge of LMS, Adobe In Design and Illustrator is an asset
  • Proven ability to work under tight timelines and defined budgets;
  • Flexible with their time and has the ability to commit to project plan timelines;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated experience bringing forward creative and innovative design ideas to meet client needs;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy, while maintaining confidentiality;
  • Must have a home office and accessible by phone, email or web conferencing
  • Must be available Mon-Fri during regular business hours
