Software System Programmer

Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies Inc. designs, builds and sells a new generation of water treatment systems – a nutrient recovery solution that creates value from waste by removing nutrients from wastewater and transforming them into revenue-generating, environmentally-friendly commercial fertilizer. Along with helping wastewater treatment facilities reduce operating costs and meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations, Ostara’s proprietary Pearl® Nutrient Recovery Process recovers and transforms critical nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen into Crystal Green®, a slow-release fertilizer that Ostara markets and sells, providing cost savings and a new stream of revenue for municipalities.

Job Summary

Working as part of our IT team the main responsibility of the Software System Programmer will be to design and configure software for our PrismPlus process information system.

The position is full time and based in Ostara’s head office in downtown Vancouver. Ostara is a growth stage company with a dynamic environment. We are looking for someone who is adaptable to change, working with a variety of people, while bringing the technical skills and experience relevant to this position.

This opening is on a contract term to start, with the possibility of extending, or turning into a permanent full-time position.

Nature of Work

This is a professional information technology programming position supporting Ostara’s PrismPlus process information system development using tools such as Capstone Technologies ParcView and ParcDATA, MS SQL Server and various graphical design tools. This position reports to the IT Manager.

The primary duties of this position include configuring and implementing the process information system, scripting process calculations, designing graphical process screens and writing database stored procedures and queries. This position requires problem solving and analytical skills, and the ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical users. This position requires an ability to manage multiple tasks, respond quickly to emergent problems, and to focus both on long-range projects and immediate tasks required to maintain system functionality.

· Support end users in the use of process information system.

· Assist with the implementation of new process information modules and contribute to software upgrades and testing.

· Develop new process graphic screens as per specifications.

· Develop, code and test process calculations.

· Develop, code and test database queries and stored procedures.

· Configure and build reports with data coming from various sources.

· Configure the various applications of the process information system.

· Work across multiple projects and support day to day work.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

· Basic level of database and software programming knowledge

· Proficiency with graphical design applications

· Relevant experience in business analysis and change management in a supply chain or manufacturing environment

· Must have good analytical skills, effective written and oral communications skills

· Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with customers, employees, and able to work independently and in a team environment.
