JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for professional, results driven Nuclear Refurbishment

Tooling and Construction Coordinators

to join our team.

The Darlington Nuclear Station is embarking on a refurbishment program that will extend the operating life for 30 years. OPG and its’ vendors are deploying advanced automated tooling to remove and replace reactor components to meet the stringent nuclear standards for construction.

This role serves as the Tooling Oversight and Series Oversight Construction Coordinators. Providing specialized oversight in this field, the successful Contract Coordinator possesses detailed technical experience with automated tooling in nuclear refurbishment environment. In addition, project management and nuclear refurbishment field experience, combined with strong leadership and communication skills is an asset.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Make effective recommendations to the Manager on the feasibility of performing the work using Company staff or by tendering the work to contractors.

Review building systems working drawings, as required, ensuring that specifications are met, and that the drawings are compatible with existing structures and systems.

When tendering, review documents for technical accuracy, detail engineering and accuracy of drawings, making changes as necessary.

At various stages of development, obtain appropriate approvals, and final approval prior to tendering contracts.

Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external groups such as trades staff, planning staff, engineers, contractors, operators, to provide refurbishment oversight.

Ensure that electrical, civil, architectural, operational, mechanical, financial treatment, and unique project features are considered, discussed, and meet specifications. All aspects of the project must be compatible including schedules and budgets for the various phases of the work program.

Coordinate work of contractors and consultants to ensure quality of work performed, adherence to work schedule, and conformance with standards, policies, legal requirements, codes, policies, regulations, and specifications.

Monitor the status of all assigned projects including inspection of installation, and participate in or witness commissioning of work.

Ensure that the quality of work meets specifications and comply with the contract. Prepare written reports to document observations, findings, work details and completion dates.

Prepare reports after conducting inspections of in-service systems, to monitor their operations after project completion.

Initiate adjustments to contracts, modifications and remedial measures upon completion of inspection.

Work with operation and maintenance personnel to prepare maintenance programs and schedules.

Act as the interface for work control, identify and schedule work that requires participation of staff outside the unit.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

Technical degree or diploma or a journeyman certification is required

This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of Grade 12 plus 3 years’ further concentrated study, or by having the equivalent level of education.

2 or more years of experience specifically on nuclear refurbishment project is an asset

5 or more years of field experience in a nuclear plant, technical services, construction or manufacturing environment

Working knowledge of CANDU reactor components is required

Specialized tooling experience, either mechanical or Instrumentation and Control/Electrical/Software

Knowledge of project management practices

Experience in a contract oversight role

Industrial and radiological safety awareness

Requires a detailed technical knowledge of computer applications, mathematics, contracts and specifications, building codes and inspection, electrical equipment, and automatic controls as related to building mechanical services such as heating, ventilation, drainage, water supply and sewage disposal.

Strong communications skills, both written and oral, ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders and prepare reports.
