Research Technician – Service Worker1- (Entomology/Turfgrass)

Hourly Rate: $19.04

Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) has a summer opportunity available for a Research Technician to provide assistance in the entomology and turfgrass areas of the OCCI research team. The successful candidate will work jointly with both groups from May 1, 2017 to September 1, 2017, supporting scientists and other research staff in on-going laboratory and field research projects.

Responsibilities are various and may include assisting in the implementation of trial protocols, data and sample collection, laboratory measurements and testing, landscaping and seeding, and maintenance and management of research and demonstration / turf plots.

The successful candidate will have completed a BSc in Biology or be returning to school in the fall to complete their BSc, with a focus on entomology, and/or ecology being preferred. The ideal candidate will be physically able to perform the required outdoor research activities, be a self-motivated team player, have good organizational skills, and be able to work with little supervision. Skills that would be an asset include computer skills, data entry and understanding of experimental design, demonstrated equipment operation, and landscape or turfgrass management experience. A valid driver’s license is required.

This position requires the incumbent to provide and wear their own CSA approved footwear and successfully complete WHMIS Certification.

Temporary employees shall be paid in addition to their regular rate of pay, fourteen percent (14%) of their earnings in lieu of vacation and named statutory holidays.
