The Technical Artist act as a bridge between the Artists and Programmers working on a game. He ensures art assets can be easily integrated into a game without sacrificing either the overall artistic vision or exceeding the technical limits of the chosen platform. Despite his technical knowledge, the Technical Artist works part of the art team, working closely with the Lead Artist and the Creative Director, as well as the Lead Programmers. His main areas of responsibility include setting up and maintaining the art production workflow, and making decisions about which art packages and tools a studio should use. He is also charged with investigating new techniques and implementing them.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Define the artistic style and creative vision of games.
  • Drive the vision of art through the development process.
  • Establish, communicate and manage the objectives of the department to meet project schedules.
  • Establish and oversee production pipelines.
  • Work independently on major design initiatives.
  • Contribute to a collaborative environment.
  • Collaborate with game designers, and other members of the internal and external project to deliver a unique experience of high-level game, to complete the GDD.
  • Producer support to set goals and creative and clear deliverables; focus efforts across the team to ensure a consistent experience throughout the game and service.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the art scope, schedule and budget within the team.
  • Create formal and informal critique, and provide effective feedback for individual development, team and product.
  • Determine the visual design for iPhone, iPad and other mobile platform applications
  • Translation of documents in the design of the user interface prototype, using a variety of tools and software.
  • Work with the team to create designs for the user interface of the information architecture documents, intuitive application flows and use case testing.
  • Participation in all phases of the project lifecycle, including requirements gathering, analysis of the user, IA, graphic design, testing and implementation.
  • Graphic production – creating art assets for iPhone, iPad and other mobile applications.
  • Design and creation of custom controls, icons, buttons, interfaces, etc.


  • Expert level in skills developed to a concept and a consistent roadmap for the production concept art.
  • Games experience in the industry.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential to be able to translate your visions into instructions for the teams.
  • Experience with lighting, composition, color studies, painting and storyboard.
  • Knowledge of tools and industry-standard software.
  • Ability to work in a wide range of visual styles.
  • Ability to work closely with the management team and other departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to tight deadlines.
  • Experience in the design of interfaces is an asset.
  • Fluent written and spoken English or French.
