About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Registrar, the Communications Officer is responsible for ensuring effective and strategic communication and research initiatives by the Commission that is consistent with the Commission mandate and advances the Commission’s strategic plan.
Provide communication support to the Commission staff, Board of Directors, and committees
Lead the implementation of the Commission’s strategic communications plan
Write and edit content for website and publications
Manage online content and social media platforms
Research and write reports on assigned topics
Assist in the planning and execution of the Annual General Meeting
Draft press releases when necessary and provide media relations support
Provide internal communications support
Research and recommend appropriate communication and media technologies, including overseeing new avenues of communication
Respond to inquiries from the industry and the public
Perform other duties as assigned from time to time
A university degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism or a related discipline;
2-5 years’ experience in a communications role, or equivalent experience;
Excellent creative writing, report writing, and editing skills;
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign), Joomla or similar content management systems, Google Analytics and MailChimp or similar e-newsletter services;
Exceptional attention to detail to prepare documents that are consistently of the highest quality;
Strong organizational skills;
Able to work under pressure on multiple projects and meet strict deadlines; and
Self-motivated and a strong team player.
Experience in the real estate industry or familiarity with the Nova Scotia Real Estate Trading Act
Previous involvement in communicating complex information in plain language.
