The Community Support Worker reports to the Manager of Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Addiction Services and functions as a key member of Mental Health Services and of the Child and Adolescent Service Providers Team. This position is responsible to ensure family centred community care to children, adolescents and their families.

The duties of the Community Support Worker will be carried out in accordance with the principles and practices that guide Nova Scotia Health Authority.

Major Responsibilities

Collaborate with youth, family, team members, and other interagency team members to formulate a plan of care.
Utilize interpersonal and clinical skills in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
Use psycho-educational teaching and counselling skills to assist youth and their families.
Provide a supportive environment for the youth and family to engage in decision making.
Use effective communication skills to relate to the youth and family.
Travel within Yarmouth, Digby and Shelburne Counties may be required.


A degree in a health related field relevant to human services or an acceptable equivalent.
Minimum of two (2) years experience working with children and adolescents with mental health disorders and their families.
Supporting courses in child and adolescent development are an asset.
Holds a current Nova Scotia driver’s license, has access to a reliable vehicle, and required insurance coverage.
Familiar with mental health and community resources within the specified catchment area.
Knowledge of working safely and effectively in the community environment
Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility, resourcefulness, sensitivity, commitment and reliability.
Self-directed and able to work flexible hours
Ability to communicate effectively, in both official languages, an asset.
Capable of maintaining regular attendance.

Hours of Work: Temporary position – November 1, 2016 to May 20, 2017

Salary: $24.016 – $34.2614 hourly
