Under the direction of the Mental Health & Addiction Residential & Recovery Coordinator, the Lifeskills Support Worker provides support for individuals with serious mental illness in a residential setting to effectively enter and participate in rehabilitation; specifically education, employment, leisure and personal life. The Lifeskills Support Worker is expected to engage the individual and family as people with full competence and as full collaborators in service planning, delivery, and evaluation. Qualifications

• Completion of a Resident Care Attendant Program Certificate and a Community Mental Health Worker Course plus three (3) years’ experience working with clients with a mental illness or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
• Food Safe Course.
• Valid First Aide Certificate and CPR.
• Class 5 BC Driver’s License.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to work in an independent living model with adults with a mental illness.
• Ability to organize work and prioritize.
• Good time management skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation.
• Knowledge of psychiatric disorders, medications and side effects.
• Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation
• Ability to assess situations and diffused crisis incidents.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Ability to work effectively with others.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
