Working for Norbord, the world’s leading OSB (oriented strand board) producer and based at the Technology Centre in Montreal, lead a team of senior engineers, to conduct in-plant variability audits and make practical recommendations to the plants on how to reduce process variation. In addition, the person should have a proven innovations record in the development and implementation of tools and measurement systems that measure process parameters key to our business. Sometimes the involved systems are off the shelf, but often the systems need to be developed from scratch. The job also requires the maintenance and ongoing support for systems we currently have in place, mostly camera-based technology.

This position reports to the director of technology and will requires at least 50% travel to Norbord operations world-wide. Required Experience – Ideally the applicant has a background in Chemical, Electrical, Computer, Civil or Mechanical engineering with an outstanding knowledge of modern statistics and multivariate analysis in a multi-parametric production process, preferably at the Masters level – 10 years+ work experience in using applied mathematics (statistics) in a manufacturing environment – Oriented strand board or panel experience an asset – Proven success in-plant DOE (design of experiments) for decision-making and cost reduction – Lead, guide and train plant personnel tasked with variability reduction to get at root cause, and resolve issues which help reduce variation – Ability to provide ongoing statistical training, data analysis and trouble-shooting to the operations Technical Expertise – Strong Mechanical skills – Strong trouble-shooting skills – Familiarity with SQL databases, and report creation – Strong programming skills: Matlab proficiency, C++ – Strong written and interpersonal skills – Strong leadership skills, as well as ability to work well as part of a team – Proficiency in PLC’s and ladder logic an asset – Familiarity with vision systems, cameras applied to a manufacturing environment a strong asset Salary: TBD- Is based on level of experience and education
