Music Leader Wanted

At Niverville United Church our mission is to worship God, care for each other, seek justice, and deepen our faith within our Christian Church family.

We are currently seeking a music leader who can enhance our spiritual life through instrumental and choral expression.

This person will work under the direction of the Worship and Education committee and works in a close, collaborative relationship with the Minister.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Play musical accompaniment at weekly and special services (approx. 5 per year), as well as at the church’s service at the PCH (every 6 weeks).
  • Attend Worship and Education meetings (approximately 8 per year).
  • In collaboration with the Minister, choose appropriate music for the service.
  • Play prelude and postlude music at services.
  • Lead and direct the choir(s).
  • Incorporate other musical instruments into worship.
  • Recommend maintenance of church clavinova.
  • Select and order new music.
  • Program music into the clavinova.
  • Opportunity for additional accompaniment for special services such as weddings and funerals for an extra fee.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in playing the piano and willingness to learn and use a wide variety of clavinova features to enhance the worship experience.
  • Leadership skills – the ability to lead the congregation in music.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a church setting working with staff, musicians and volunteers is desirable.
  • Familiarity with a traditional style of Christian worship and liturgies.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Choral teaching and conducting experience an asset.
  • Singing would be considered an asset.

Salary:

Set fee for services includes plus an additional payment for choir. There is also the opportunity for additional income through special services, e.g. weddings / funerals.
