The Manager of Logistics is responsible for the planning and general operations of the logistical functions of the Region’s EMS Services under the direction of the Deputy Chief. Program success will result from strategic input as part of the Emergency Medical Services Senior Leadership Team and insightful planning and analysis to ensure efficient and effective utilization of human, physical and financial resources through progressive inventory as well as risk management processes. In accordance with applicable legislative and other regulatory body requirements, this position works closely with corporate facilities and purchasing staff, external parties and EMS operational staff to ensure objectives are attained. The Logistics program is accountable for logistics as they pertain to facility planning and maintenance; equipment selection and acquisition, distribution systems and capital acquisition, as well as being accountable for planning and project management of identified special projects within the Emergency Services Division.
EDUCATION
- A University degree in a Health Services discipline or equivalent combination of education and related work experience preferably in an emergency health field
- Formal training/certification in Process Improvement focus of study (i.e. LEAN, Six Sigma, project management)
KNOWLEDGE
- Comprehensive knowledge of emergency medical services in Ontario and a working knowledge of the health care system in the Niagara Region
- Working knowledge and experience with budget process and control
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of MS Word and Excel as well as project management software
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Health & Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position
- Emergency service experience is an asset but not mandatory for this position
- Working knowledge of all applicable Acts and Regulations regarding Emergency Health Services in Ontario
- Comprehensive knowledge of Regulations and Standards specific to EMS vehicles and equipment in Ontario
- Working knowledge of purchasing and acquisition procedures
- Demonstrated ability to direct the delivery of public services making use of comprehensives management and leadership skills complemented by an innovative and results-oriented approach
- Demonstrated ability to motivate staff and foster a co-operative and harmonious team environment
- Demonstrated ability to exercise superior judgment, tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive and complex situations.
- Previous successful experience managing units, ideally EMS
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a management/supervisory position
- A background in emergency operations
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, negotiation, report writing and presentation skills required, including oral and written communication skills
- Ability to motivate staff and foster a co-operative and harmonious team environment

- Ministry of Health Emergency Health Services Identification Card
- In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance – Condition of Employment
- Valid Class G drivers licence mandatory – F license preferred
- Hold and maintain a valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate to the Basic Rescuer level and Standard First Aid at the time of employment
- Vaccine: Influenza Shot – Preferred
- Fluency in both English and French – Asset
