Reporting to the Executive Vice President, People & Organizational Development, the Workplace Relations Advisor will be responsible and accountable for the overall management of the workplace relations program, including harassment and violence. Key responsibilities include organizational responsibility for policy development, review and implementation, and program evaluation. The incumbent will develop organizational strategies to address workplace issues, including identifying appropriate training and related program development. At the individual level, the incumbent will conduct sensitive internal investigations based on complaints filed, and identify strategies to resolve issues including mediation, training, individual safety plans etc. The Advisor will coach managers, staff and physicians on respectful workplace interactions. To be successful, the incumbent will approach all matters with discretion and sensitivity, and without bias.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Graduate or post graduate degree in Labour Relations or a related field.
o Minimum five years’ experience in human resources with direct experience in dispute resolution, conflict management and crisis intervention
o Recent experience in policy development, implementation and evaluation as well as training development and delivery
o Recent experience in leading and facilitating workshops with all levels of staff and physicians.
o Ability to provide advice on and interpret HR policies, collective agreements and relevant legislation
o Demonstrated ability to work independently and not easily influenced.
o Superior communication and interpersonal skills with ability to improve internal communication and workplace relations; balanced perspective, ability to hear out all sides of an issue and determine the balance of probabilities in making recommendations
o Integrates education, critical thinking, analytical skills and relevant practical experience into problem solving
o Evidence of superior facilitation skills and abilities including team and change management
o Strategic perspective and analytical skills
o Working knowledge of the Public Hospitals Act, regulated legislation, labour agreements, hospital policies and procedures
o Knowledge and application of evidence-based practice
o Demonstrated ability to manage a diversified workload, changing priorities and multiple deadlines
o Proficient in Microsoft programs including Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint
o Evidence of commitment to continuous learning
o Consistent and regular attendance
