Job Summary

NGO’s Supporting Uninsured/Underinsured Residents (NSUUR) is a collaboration of social profit organizations working together to support uninsured and underinsured Wood Buffalo residents whose homes were destroyed or damaged in the Horse River Wildfire find reconstruction solutions to fit their circumstance. FuseSocial, Habitat for Humanity Wood Buffalo, Mennonite Disaster Services, Samaritan’s Purse and World Renew are working together to ensure a coordinated reconstruction response, to identify and resolve common rebuild issues/concerns and to implement a centralized application and selection process for program candidates.

Reporting to the Chair of the NSUUR Program, the NSUUR Coordinator will be primarily responsible for identifying candidates for NSUUR reconstruction projects, raising awareness of and providing information about the NSUUR program. The Coordinator will lead educational and community engagement activities to this end. Working collaboratively with a team of case management workers, construction experts and volunteers, the Coordinator will be the front face of the program and will handle all office administrative duties including database management, meeting facilitation and product donation and distribution management.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Represent and promote the NSUUR Reconstruction Program
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with stakeholders, potential applicants and community partners (NGO’s, government and social agencies, building material/supply sources)
  • Manage the NSUUR office and respond to program enquiries (in-person, telephone, social media, and e-mail) in a timely and knowledgeable fashion
  • Develop, plan and implement special events, community events and activities that will engage citizens and help promote the NSUUR program and identify new candidates
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and engagement sessions/workshops to educate potential candidates and stakeholders on the program
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular NSUUR meetings and special events
  • Implement a communications plan, develop marketing and communications materials (including press releases) and liaise with local media
  • Activate social media platforms to promote the program
  • Track and report on NSUUR project progress, common issues and concerns
  • Attend and participate in social agency, working group and government meetings
  • Maintain files and records for program participants, community partners, donors, etc.
  • Coordinate large-scale product donations
  • Other duties as they develop related to the Rebuild Program

Qualifications and Skills

  • Post secondary degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Event Management or related field (a combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • Experience in marketing, communications and social media engagement with excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience in special event management/facilitation
  • Experience in data collection, compilation and evaluation
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently
  • Self-directed with a willingness to learn
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google products as well as social media and online forums
  • Proficiency in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Demonstrated creativity
  • Knowledge and understanding of available support services in Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo considered an asset
  • Experience working with social profit organizations and volunteers considered an asset
  • Must be comfortable engaging with media
  • Must possess and maintain an Alberta class 5 driver’s license, own a registered motor vehicle and provide a valid copy of registration and insurance
  • Must be available for some evenings and weekends
