One of Nexus Group’s enterprise clients is in need of a DBA for a contract opening. This individual will be working in an Enterprise Data Warehouse environment and focusing on relational database administration, with a primary focus on Hadoop. The successful individual will bring good communication skills, team work, knowledge of Hadoop and other relational DBMS’s and physical data modeling experience.
Responsibilities

• Develop physical database models using the internal modeling tool and following defined standards and guidelines
• Perform physical model and database changes in the development environment
• Maintain database security following defined standards and guidelines
• Perform backups and restores as required
• Monitor performance and perform database performance optimization as required
• Monitor database space usage
• Complete documentation for database designs and reviewing these designs per standards
• Participate in database design peer reviews
• Help to develop database standards, procedures and guidelines
• Support and troubleshoot the various database environments and technical issues
• Work closely with the development and production support staff to troubleshoot issues and resolve problems
• Disk space management
• Perform data fixes as required
• Point of Contact for Vendor escalation
• May require 7×24 afterhours support

• Knowledge of systems development lifecycle and agile methodologies
• Hadoop
• Hive, sqoop, pig and other hadoop technologies

• DB2 LUW with DPF version 9.7 or higher
• Netezza version 6 or higher
• SQL server 2005 or higher
• Unix and Windows OS skill
• Unix korn shell, linux bash shell and other scripting languages
• Strong SQL skills
• Knowledge of data modeling tools such as ER/Studio or ER/Win

Education and Experience

• Computer Science degree or College Diploma or equivalent experience
• 2+ years DBA experience with multi-terabyte data warehouse environment
• Strong SQL skills required
• Strong experience in UNIX required, including command line editors, scripting (shell, Python, Perl, etc.)
• Experience in database performance tuning required
• Experience in all aspects of the software development lifecycle including: requirements gathering, design, coding, testing and production support
