DURATION:

Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant will ensure public reporting documents are compliant with IFRS and regulatory requirements, and manage the month end close process for one of the Company’s development projects.

The Senior Accountant will also partner with New Gold’s operations to provide accurate and timely reporting to senior management.

This position is on a temporary, contract basis to cover a maternity leave.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the preparation of the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A);
  • Manage and co-ordinate the monthly financial consolidation process;
  • Carry out day-to-day development project accounting functions, such as preparing journal entries, reviewing GL reconciliations, preparing continuity schedules, in order to ensure a timely close of month-ends and reporting periods;
  • Responsible for cost control for the development project, managing the authorization for expenditure (“AFE”) approval process, tracking costs against approved AFEs and ensuring that accruals are booked on a timley basis.
  • Prepare detailed monthly development project cost reports, variance analyses, and board financial updates.
  • Provide assistance and support to internal and external auditors;
  • Manage the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecast for the development project; and
  • Participate in special projects when required, such as ad-hoc and value-added financial analysis.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Finance or Accounting coupled with a recognized Canadian professional accounting designation (CPA) is essential;
  • CPA, with at least 4 years of relevant experience, preferably within the mining industry, with exposure to public company reporting and multi-jurisdiction environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong technical and disclosure knowledge of IFRS combined with experience dealing with complex accounting issues;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Interpersonal skills, enabling successful collaboration witha cross-section of teams;
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and comprehension abilities as well as great attention to detail;
  • Ability to work under time pressure and balance multiple priorities with grace and good humour;
  • Proficiency with MS Office, with in-depth knowledge of Excel and Power Point, proficiency in SAP and consolidation software packages an asset
