About The Opportunity

We are looking for a Manager, Communications to join our Communications group within the Marketing team at our Richmond main office, reporting to the Director of Communications. Travel is up to 20%. The Manager, Communications oversees public relations and media/blogger relations for the company and its brands.

You’re a passionate brand ambassador who is a natural born storyteller with a reputation for driving results. Bursting with curiosity, you know how to build and leverage relationships to connect brands to the right audience at the right time. Whether you’re working with media or industry/trade associations, you know how to build and leverage relationships to identify opportunities that turn heads.

You’re driven by creative intuition but know to gut check and course correct with data/results to ensure the company tells stories that motivate the desired consumer behavior. Always curious and learning, you have a deep understanding of industry best practices around media, blogger and influencer relations as well as its tools and processes. You know that connecting the company to its desired audiences through stories/news requires constant refinement and testing to ensure the most optimal results.

Overall, the goal of your role is to get people talking about Nature’s Path whether it be from paid and non-paid stories, print/broadcast news, working with influencers or video. For you, just building brand awareness isn’t good enough. You’re driven to create strategies that result in action to help bring organics into every home one spoonful at a time.

Critical outcomes for this role include:
General:
Manage projects against budgets and financial objectives

Coordinate work efforts with others to ensure integration and completion of work

Work with assigned partner organizations to identify and activate their marketing channels and media opportunities

Leverage and manage the execution of strategic industry leadership programs such as Hemp History Week, Non-GMO Month and Organic Week

Monitor industry, government and media/news developments as it relates to our business including proactively identifying breaking trends

Media/Blogger Relations:
Develop and execute brand PR strategies to drive media/blogger coverage for consumer, trade and business audiences to ensure coverage for all brands

Provides communication consultation and strategy development to various internal entities and external entities as assigned

Cultivate and enhance collaborative working relationships with the national/regional media plus blogger/social media influencers which includes both paid and non-paid opportunities

Direct and manage the activities of our external public relations firm(s) including the creation of strategies, press materials, coordinating interviews, creating key messages

Contribute to the strategic development around our third-party spokespeople and lead the monthly management of work

Work with our digital team to leverage internal data to produce thought leadership content, including pitch angles, research reports, and bylines to help the company achieve its goals around leadership and change in the organic industry

Service regular media requests and act as a source of information

Prepare and coach spokespeople to ensure the most positive outcome

Represent the company as spokesperson for brand opportunities as required

Develop media materials such as news releases, talking points, bios, pitch letters, alerts

Oversee media monitoring plus track and measure results which includes preparing monthly, quarterly and campaign reports for the Director, Communications

Assist the Director, Communications with any issues/crisis activities

General thought leadership

Identify and secure speaking opportunities for executive for consumer, trade and business events to help the company achieve both is business goals as well as goal to lead positive change in the organic industry

Create speaker presentations as needed

Identify award opportunities and prepare submissions

Work with the digital team to identify online influencers who can help to drive the company’s

vision and values to increase brand awareness and organic leadership

Supervise direct report(s) in the planning and execution of communication and public relations strategies for their assigned brands

Ensure direct report(s) develop measurable communication and public relations strategies

Supervise direct report(s) in the planning and execution of print advertising activities

Ensure all advertising and media materials on strategy, on time and on budget

Contribute to the growth and development of your direct report(s) to maximize their performance, engagement and overall satisfaction with the company

Success in this role will require:
Education

BA degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field or related experience

Experience & Attributes

7 – 10 years’ experience in Communications or Public Relations

Leadership experience with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Excellent project and team management skills

Strong media relations skills; proven track record working with executives, press and influencers

Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented environment

Knowledge of and passion for the organic food industry is an asset

Experience handling budgets and forecasting/reporting results

A demonstrated track record on leading a team through the campaign planning and execution processes.

Ability to explain and share complex concepts in a way that everyone can understand.

Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to manage/execute multiple ongoing projects.

Ability to quickly prioritize and react to changing dynamics and communicate priorities to key internal and external stakeholders

A love for helping people and solving problems.

Exceptional ability to work with the public with confidence and enthusiasm.
