The Naturalization Planting Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in order to complete naturalization projects. Job sites are often in secluded natural areas, and require the planting and seeding of stream channels, stormwater ponds, and meadows. The ideal candidate will be a self motivated- hard working-outdoor enthusiast, have a keen interest in native plants/ horticulture/ecology, and be capable of safely operating a variety of tools and equipment. We are currently seeking 4-6 Naturalization Planting Technicians

Job Duties:

  • Receive daily instructions from the Lead Hand or Naturalization Division Manager
  • Work on a crews of 3-8 people to complete naturalization/restoration projects
  • Plant a variety of sizes of plant material; from aquatic plugs to 3 gallon perennials and shrubs, to caliper trees.
  • Move and install soil, mulch and plant material to assist with the installation of ecological restoration and naturalization projects
  • Weed and water planting areas to maintain optimal plant health
  • Operate power equipment including, but not limited to line trimmers, gas powered augers, power drill (once properly trained)
  • The ability to safely operate skid steers, tractors, excavators is a huge bonus
  • Use a variety of planting/gardening hand tools
  • Assist Lead Hand in other work-related duties including construction projects, nursery maintenance, shop and yard maintenance, vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
  • Maintain a safe and organized job site
  • Comply with all company policies and regulations
  • Work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations
  • Have respect for nature, its processes and creatures


  • Completion of a University Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent experience/knowledge gained in a field related to Horticulture/Landscaping/Ecological Restoration
  • Minimum 1 year experience planting, working on crews
  • Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
  • Effective written & verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read a sitemap, planting plan, complete simple daily progress reports
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent stamina
  • Ability to lift upwards of 50 lbs repeatedly
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a crew
  • Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time and carry out strenuous physical tasks for 10 hours a day
  • Valid G driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Be friendly, encouraging, and easy-going

Work Conditions:

  • Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis
  • Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, and planting materials
  • Requires good manual dexterity
  • Work outdoors in various conditions including heat and humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold and more importantly to stay motivated and focused to complete the tasks at hand
