Municipality of the District of Shelburne is seeking applications from qualified candidates to fill the position of Lock-up Guard Supervisor. This unionized position of Lock-Up Guard Supervisor is being posted internally and externally. This position works in three week on-call cycles with the first two weeks being a minimum of 25 hours and third week being off.

Position Summary:

Lock-up Supervisor shall be responsible for the effective oversight and management of the Shelburne County Lock-up, scheduling of staff for the facility, maintaining up-to-date training and certification documentation for all employees, acts as a Lock-up Guard during their scheduled shifts, maintains a detailed time-sensitive account of all prisoners, prepares statements and report for law enforcement agencies, prepares and submits bi-weekly hours pay reports, regularly reviews the operations telecommunications equipment, maintains up-to-date copies of all facility agreements, standing orders and directives, prepares monthly financial billing reports and quarterly reports for the Chief Administrative Officer, meets with provincial and federal officials bi-annually to review operations and service effectiveness and compliance, and when required, use self-defense tools for the protection of harm to self and others according to the prescribed authorization of such weapons and provisions of the criminal code for Peace Officers. This position description is a general scope of duties and does not limit Management’s ability to assign other responsibilities to this position from time to time.

Hours of Work:

This is a union position that operates in the Administration Department. Regular part-time hours of work are two weeks on and one week off during a continuous three-week cycle seven days a week, with a minimum guaranteed number of hours each work week. This positon requires that the employee be within 30-minutes of the Lock-up at all times when on-call.


Applicants for this position must be a graduate of a recognized post-secondary institution with a degree or diploma in corrections, law, or equivalent with a strong understanding of law enforcement and government regulations plus five to seven years of related experience in corrections, policing or the military, with some of that time in a supervisory role.
