(4 months contract, 18 hours per week)

Canada has the highest rate of multiple sclerosis in the world, with 100,000 Canadians living with MS. The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is the country’s MS advocate, funding leading research in MS and programs & services that help people live well with the disease.

Based in Medicine Hat Chapter, the Coordinator, Fund Development, Programs & Services assists the Chapter Manager in planning and implementing the Jayman BUILT MS Walk and also provides support to Programs & Services as required.

The successful incumbent will be required to complete a criminal background check as a condition of hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and supports the volunteer Walk committee in the Wood Buffalo Region
  • Liaises and assists Brooks Walk coordinator in preparations for Brooks Walk
  • Helps to source, secure and confirm sponsors required for the Medicine Hat and Brooks Walks
  • Helps maintain and record Walker registrations (both Walks)
  • In conjunction with Chapter Manager – prepares prize list and orders prizes
  • Plans and implements Walk Kick-off
  • Ensures poster and brochure distribution
  • Coordinates and supervises the assignment of volunteers to all Walk positions
  • Arranges and chairs the Walk volunteer orientation meeting
  • Coordinates Team MS procedures
  • Books and confirms all other requirements for Walk day (Port-a-potties, Medical personnel, etc.)
  • Assists with all aspects of Walk day
  • Books all preliminary arrangements for next year
  • Provides excellent customer service for walkers, donors, volunteers and sponsors
  • Recruits, retains and recognizes walkers, team captains and donors
  • Builds relationships with sponsors and walkers
  • Receives telephone and email inquiries and answers questions about the walk
  • Provides support to the Chapter Manager as required in the delivery of Programs & Services.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the monthly activities for each of the following support groups: Medicine Hat, Brooks, Caregivers & Young Adults
  • Provides updates and shares pertinent information with each group
  • Coordinates guest speakers as appropriate
  • Advertises meetings as appropriate to ensure successful attendance
  • extends invites to client, members and volunteers in a timely manner
  • Coordinates presentations and arranges logistics including but not limited to: arranging speakers and their accommodations, booking an accessible location, ordering food and refreshments and coordinating advertising
  • Assists the Chapter Manager with MS fundraising events: Walks, Bingos & Casino etc. as required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum college diploma with at least 1-3 years’ experience in fundraising and event planning or the equivalent education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience in customer relationship management is an asset
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Experience in a not-for-profit environment is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills including verbal, written and presentation
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task items at differing stages of completion
  • Self-motivated, including an ability to develop goals and objectives as well as work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to take initiative and practice good decision-making
  • Well-spoken with excellent telephone manners
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook Email
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Ability to be flexible and respond to a diverse workload
  • Willingness to volunteer/participate at special events

Special Considerations :

  • Travel will be required, mostly throughout Alberta
  • Some evening and weekend work is required to carry out these events
  • Physical demands of special events including packing, lifting carrying and loading
  • Constraints of weather elements at sites during special events
