Under the leadership and direction of the Director of Community Services, the incumbent of this position is responsible for the overall management, operations, and financial sustainability of the Multicultural Wellness Program, Indigenous Wellness program, and the supervision of Health Promotion Social Work services. As a member of the Management Team the incumbent is required to organize, coordinate, plan and evaluate the Multicultural Wellness and Indigenous Wellness programs, and Health Promotion Social Work services within the overall goals of Mount Carmel Clinic and in response to the diverse changing and challenging needs of the community.
  • Note: The hours of work for this position may vary based on the department’s operational requirements.

Qualifications & Responsibilities:

  • Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences or equivalent experience will be considered
  • Post Diploma/Certificate in Management, Program Management or related field would be a definite asset
  • Must have at least 4 years experience working in community development
  • A minimum of 2 years of non profit management and program development and delivery experience including: budget preparation and monitoring, writing grant applications, contracts, and reports
  • 5 years experience working with individuals who are impacted by the social determinants of health
  • 5 years experience working with Indigenous, Newcomer/ Immigrant/ Refugee, and inner-city communities and individuals
  • Experience working with marginalized, high risk populations
  • Management experience in a unionized environment an asset
  • Secure understanding of harm reduction
  • Demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention techniques’, including the ability to assist and support staff during crises
  • Experience working in a community agency is an asset
  • Experience supervising experiential staff is an asset
  • Ability to interpret and implement legislative and regulatory changes
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups and organizations
  • Ability to manage and adapt positively to an ever changing health care/work environment
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative, de-colonial, trauma informed, and client centered approach and support MCC’s values in meaningful ways
  • Ability to work in a pro-choice community health facility in an inner city community and provide care using harm reduction principles
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues impacting the health of inner city residents
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions
  • Ability to work within the impacts of the social determinants of health in an effective and non-judgemental way
  • Knowledge of the legacy of residential schools, colonization, assimilation, and the impacts of such history on the health of individuals
  • Understanding of how culture and diversity influence the client service plan
  • Ability to mentor, support, and work alongside students and volunteers
  • Must have demonstrated acceptable attendance and job performance relevant to this position
  • Must be able to adhere to the requirements of the Respectful Workplace Policy
