Position Summary

As the Electrical Technician, you will deliver reliable operation and accurate operation from all electrical equipment at the production facilities. With the support of instrumentation, mechanical commissioning disciplines and engineering, you will deliver the site electrical program, establish appropriate benchmarks, and direct the site evolution towards plant wide testing. You will also aid in the training of maintenance technicians to develop a greater skill set in electrical maintenance. You are responsible for your own personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and promoting the company’s/clients HSE Programs and OH&S Rules and Regulations.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Primary and secondary testing of instrument transformers (current and voltage transformers), polarity and ratio check
  • Testing of MV switchboards including the apparatus (e.g. circuit breaker, disconnecting switches, earthing switches, CT’s, VT’s, etc.)
  • Testing of LV switchboards including the apparatus (e.g. circuit breakers, CT’s, etc.), the protection devices (e.g. earth fault detection, etc.), the measurement devices or centers
  • Testing of DC power supply system including the batteries, the chargers and switchboards
  • Testing of UPS system including the batteries, the UPS units and switchboards
  • Testing of Inter-trip panel and tripping matrix
  • Testing of mechanical & electrical interlocking schemes
  • Setting and testing of the protection guard of the main step-up & auxiliary power transformer (i.e. oil and winding temperature, Buchholz, gas pressure)
  • Ensuring good practice of commissioning carried out by contractors and/or herself/himself
  • Ensuring that the commissioning obligations of the contractors are carried out in accordance with the terms of contract, quality and schedule
  • Complete all written documentation, electronic records and check sheets required to document process completion
  • Ensuring operation and performance compliance with the design criteria
  • Liaise with vendors, subcontractors, commissioning team, start-up and operations on commissioning plant systems
  • Defining and/or reviewing method and action to ensure proper operations of equipment, a system, and a plant
  • Handing over of a commissioned system to the operation team
  • Adhere to both MMR’s and the client’s Health and Safety Management System policies and procedures at all times while ensuring the safety of self and others
  • Ensure corporate standards of quality control and assurance are met as per MMR’s Quality Management System

Key Duties:

  • Completion of Commissioning scope – “B” type ITR’s
  • Capable of carrying out Mechanical Completion walk downs produce punch lists and accept Electrical sub- systems from Contractor
  • Carry out the energisation in a safe and methodical manner
  • Carry out commissioning of Electrical Equipment in a safe and methodical manner
  • Liaise with other commissioning groups to complete scope
  • Completion of Dynamic commissioning scope
  • Receiving instructions from the commissioning team leader Support for onsite vendors
  • Understanding of LOTO Isolation procedures as they relate to all forms of energy; electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, etc.
  • Capable of reading and understanding all relevant Documentation
  • Produce as-built documentation / drawings
  • Compile punch list / outstanding work lists
  • Participate in the preparation of the Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
  • Detecting the functional anomalies, malfunction or mis-function, design deviation and defining the needed modifications and corrections
  • Detecting and analyzing any commissioning risks and proposing the needed solutions
  • Reporting to the commissioning team leader about commissioning issues and progress
  • Applying the Clients Quality System in terms of commissioning documentation (i.e. healthy and safety method statement, test procedures, anomaly reports, test reports, progress reports, suppliers evaluations, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge in network protection scheme, devices and plan (including the distribution networks, the power transformers, the generators and the motors)
  • Knowledge of mechanical & electrical interlocking schemes and principles
  • Commissioning test methodology and performance

Requirements

  • Must be an Certified Electrical Journeyman, Registered Red Seal, Electrical Certified Engineering Technologist or have equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience as an Electrical Technician in the oil and gas industry is an asset
  • 5+ years commissioning start up experience an asset
  • Strong analytical, communication (oral & written) and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Operate with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with Completion Management Systems is an asset
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team including process, mechanical, civil-structural, electrical, instrumentation and CAD support
  • Must be able to meet physical demands
