The Position
The Outreach Worker will be focused on engaging with individuals at risk of being homeless. You will work to foster healthy attitudes and practices in areas such as housing, nutrition, treatment and will, where no other service exists, assist the person build social and life skills that will enhance their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Identify and connect with homeless individuals and families living on the street, and provide linkages to housing, income assistance and community based support services
  • Provide support to clients to aid them in adapting to and maintaining a life off the streets by maintaining regular contact and monitoring their well-being
  • Work on landlord and tenancy issues; mediate between landlords and tenants in order to keep tenants housed; foster positive working relationships between groups, such as landlords, property managers etc.
  • Maintain all necessary documentation including monthly data collection and reporting to BC Housing
  • Administer rent supplements directly to landlords on behalf of clients
  • Directly assist clients with activities of daily living or coordinate with other services to ensure adequate assistance is provided; provide life skills training for clients to maintain tenancy

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 year diploma in Human Services or related field, minimum of two years related work experience and a minimum of one year of case management experience or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of the issues and barriers surrounding homelessness and housing advocacy
  • Experience delivering frontline care services to marginalized and vulnerable populations
  • Strong computer skills and experiences with Microsoft Office Suite Programs
  • Able to adapt service strategies to meet the varied and particular needs of the target population
  • Demonstrated experience working with people with multiple and complex needs (e.g. problematic substance misuse and mental ill health etc.)
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and maintain client case files and record and monitor program performance, financial data and outcomes
  • Experience working with local and provincial agencies including utility and telecommunication companies
  • High degree of independent action and judgment as well as a commitment to diplomacy and confidentiality; ability to maintain appropriate client/worker boundaries
  • Current First Aid, Non Violent Crisis Intervention and successful completion of Criminal Record Check
  • Class 5 driver’s license (no N or L restriction) with reliable automobile
