Metrolinx is looking for a Manager, Community/Stakeholder Relations & Communications to provide leadership in the development and execution of strategic community relations and communication programs for the Hurontario Light Rail Transit Project.
Build awareness, understanding and support for the HULRT Project.
Conceptualize and implement strategies that enhance and strengthen community/media relations, public education and collaboration and are aligned and support the organization’s strategies and priorities related to the HULRT project.
Identify opportunities, challenges and emerging issues faced by the HULRT while working with senior executives and staff to recognize internal and external community/stakeholder communications opportunities and solutions; defining and executing appropriate strategies
Anticipate critical issues and trends; developing comprehensive contingency and positioning plans in partnership with the Director and project team to ensure a strong process to identify, prioritize, manage and minimize issues
Partner with various levels of CPG management to identify communication requirements for the dissemination of information on the HULRT Project
Establish and strengthen relationships with a variety of stakeholders including government, industry and other external stakeholders (e.g. general public, special interest groups).
Deliver effective strategic public relations, media relations, issues analysis, proactive and reactive message management leadership
Monitor project progress to ensure that program objectives are delivered on time and within budget, and that anticipated business results are achieved
Monitor the achievement of performance objectives, developing and implementing action plans to address gaps in performance.
Completion of a degree in Communications, Business Administration or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Minimum 8 years’ progressively senior experience developing and implementing strategic community relations and communications activities, including issues management
Principles, theories, concepts, practices and techniques of strategic communications to lead the development of complex stakeholder communications strategies, issues management and communication programs
Issues analysis and issues management skills to identify critical issues and trends as well as develop comprehensive contingency and positioning plans
Strategic thinking to develop and execute original ideas and to proactively identify communications opportunities and develop supporting programs; to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
Verbal communication skills to communicate professionally and clearly in a concise, complete and logical manner on complex matters while facing emotional or difficult audiences; to act as media spokesperson
Written communication skills, including the principles of plain language and Canadian Press Style Guides, to create compelling messages, to prepare and edit a variety of written materials including speeches and briefing material.
