DESIGN REVIEW SPECIALIST

(Contract Position – up to 1 year)

Our Stations Centre of Excellence is seeking a Design Review Specialist to provide inter-disciplinary design expertise in development, coordination, and review of technical standards, and infrastructure design and implementation.

Key Responsibilities:
Provides administrative, design, editing, technical, estimating and prioritizing advice and expertise to Engineering staff, through all project stages; being customer service centric throughout the course of each process, with the goal to improve the customer experience.
Conducts forecasts and cost analyses on project engineering, construction and contingency designs, and ongoing operational and maintenance costs of project designs; recommends and implements appropriate changes to protect to minimize costs.
Integrates, through comprehensive design review, the civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, illumination, communication, acoustic, and signage, to optimize physical infrastructure for quality customer service and efficient operations.
Reviews and evaluates consultant studies, reports, design proposals, specifications and contract documents to ensure that they meet Metrolinx policies, procedures and standards.
Attends construction meetings to provide technical expertise and guidance on the development and implementation of projects, influencing the designs to meet long-term requirements, cost effectiveness and, most of all, the customer’s needs.

Qualifications:
Completion of a university degree in Urban Planning, Transportation or Architecture from a recognized university or any combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification would be considered an asset.
Minimum eight (8) years of experience in the planning, design, construction, and operations of transit facilities.
Knowledge of Multi-discipline engineering design theories, concepts, principles and practices relevant to transit facilities.
Exposure to operations, maintenance and construction management standards and practices, including the ability to understand construction, operating and maintenance documents.
Knowledge of Contract Law, Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario.
Strong problem solving, analytical and project management skills.
Strong verbal/written communications skills are essential.
Must have a valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing and the ability to maintain same.
